CS0321 Early Recognition of the Deteriorating Patient

CS0321 Early Recognition of the Deteriorating Patient 2 day course
This 2 day introductory short course is suitable for all Band 3-7 practitioners who are either working in primary, acute or continuing care settings where urgent and acute interventions may be required. The course provides an overview of patient assessment and the detection of life threatening problems. The emphasis is on good and timely patient assessment, accurate intervention and effective referral to appropriate treatment and intervention.

Participants will learn how to prioritise care and focus their actions in order to detect and act in relation to the deteriorating patient. Scenarios will enable practitioners who are newly qualified or new to acute/urgent care to gain more confidence in skills such as airway management, oxygen therapy, assessment and interpretation of haemodynamic status, recognition of the signs of a deteriorating patient, calling for assistance, supporting the experienced Registered Medical, Nursing or Paramedic practitioner and pro-active safety & equipment procedures.

This course is also suitable for ambulance and pre-hospital personnel who may have to care for patients for protracted periods during transfers.
