CS0310 Basic Life Support- Adult – Including Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

This study day is for all practitioners and provides a practical update of basic life support techniques and the response to a cardio-pulmonary arrest. Participants will learn the latest recommendations and will be able to respond to the signs of a cardiac arrest. The day will also include how to manage and respond to a respiratory arrest and how to summon help.

Additionally, you will acquire the skills to utilise an “Automated External Defibrillator” to ensure early access for patients suffering a cardiac arrest.

CS0314 Infection Control: Practical Skills in Primary & Pre-Hospital Care

This study day is for practitioners working in the community or pre-hospital care environments. The aim is to provide the essential infection control principles and guidance for safe practice within primary and pre-hospital care settings. Contemporary evidence-based guidance on the prevention of healthcare-associated infections in primary care, management of specimens, dealing with spillages and decontamination (cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation) of equipment and the transportation of patients with infections is provided.

This 4 day short course is designed to focus on skills and knowledge development to ensure the recognition of the deteriorating patient and immediate action. CS0318 Patient Assessment Skills - Bands 1-5

This 2 day short course provides an overview of patient assessment skills and enables an introductory development of essential baseline skills to be developed. At the end of the short course participants will be able to undertake a fundamental blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiratory assessment and be able to record accurately. They will be able to discuss the relevant patient information with a qualified practitioner and describe a patient centered approach. Learning will be very practical and will use simulation and clinical skills development techniques.

CS0319 High Dependency Care Skills

This 4 day intensive course is designed to promote high quality, systematic assessment skills to enable practitioners to detect, prevent and manage appropriate critical interventions in the critically ill and high dependency patient. The course brings together theory and simulation to enhance competence and confidence. High dependency care scenarios are used to examine individual patient needs in multiple specialist settings and to assess and build skills in clinical decision making. Prioritisation of care for multiple patients is examined alongside enhancing individualized care needs. The course is recommended for registered practitioners and those working within general or specialist settings where there are patients requiring high dependency care.

CS0320 Re-siting Intravenous Cannulae

This study day teaches the principles of cannulation and the protocol of re-siting i.v cannulae. Infection control and tissue viability issues are explored alongside patient assessment, fluid management, therapeutic rationale, professional responsibilities & accountability. Case study and practical simulation is used.

CS0321 Essential Acute Care Skills Introduction 2 day course

This 2 day introductory short course is suitable for Band 3-5 practitioners who are either working in acute care settings or within poly-systems where urgent and acute interventions may be required. The course provides an overview of patient assessment and the detection of life threatening problems. The emphasis is on good and timely patient assessment, accurate intervention and effective referral to appropriate treatment and intervention. Participants will learn how to prioritise care and focus their actions in order to detect and act in relation to the deteriorating patient. Scenarios will enable practitioners who are newly qualified or new to acute/urgent care to gain more confidence in skills such as airway management, oxygen therapy, assessment and interpretation of haemodynamic status, recognition of the signs of a deteriorating patient, calling for assistance, supporting the experienced Registered Medical, Nursing or Paramedic practitioner and pro-active safety & equipment procedures. This course is also suitable for ambulance and pre-hospital personnel who may have to care for patients for protracted periods during transfers.

CSO322 Essential Acute Care Skills: Mental Health Practitioners

This 2 day short course is designed to enhance acute care skills for all grades of mental health practitioners. A systematic approach to patient assessment provides the focus for building client and patient scenarios that are likely to be experienced in mental healthcare settings. Acute and urgent care interventions are taught and integrated into mental health scenarios in order to give the course and skills more applicability. Participants revise their physical assessment skills and add to them airway management, oxygen therapy, the principles of managing haemodynamics, drug therapy & familiarization with common acute physical interventions.  Case studies are used to explore common physical conditions and simulation is used to practice skilled interventions.

CS0324 Emergency/Urgent Care Practitioner Skills Development/Refresher

This 2 day short course provides a day of updating and stretching clinical skills development and a second day which focuses on clinical management and leadership development. Both days are run through dynamic, multiple skills stations that test adult and paediatric capabilities. Participants can expect to enhance their history taking expertise, prioritise multiple patient scenarios, assess “patients” with varying complex presentations, gain feedback in managing advanced life support simulations, and develop new thinking and enhanced techniques for patient flow management. CS0325 Transition Skills Acute to Primary Care Practice: Introduction

These introductory 2 day sessions are designed to explore the transition required to move from acute care into primary care environments. Scenarios that use existing skills in new ways provide an interesting and dynamic approach to exploring the transfer of skills between care settings and professional opportunities. Policy relating to the shift of care settings provides an overview that is useful in enhancing understanding and promotes exciting opportunity in discussing new career pathways. Participants will meet primary care practitioners and can gain access and insight into transferable skills. CS0326 Advanced ECG and Cardiac Pacing

This study day is for staff working in acute, urgent and critical care settings where patients regularly require 12-lead ECGs and/or cardiac pacing. The day will include an overview of cardiac electrophysiology, a revision of cardiac arrhythmias, an introduction to 12-lead ECG interpretation, recognition of myocardial ischaemia and infarction, principles and methods of cardiac pacing and trouble shooting common pacing problems.

Pre-requisites: Practitioners must have attended the Basic ECG study day and have recently reviewed cardiac anatomy and physiology

CS0327 Introduction to Advanced Life Support - Adult

This study day is available to practitioners (nurses, paramedics, therapists, medical staff, emergency and urgent care practitioners) working within adult health care settings (pre-hospital, urgent care centres & hospitals) where advanced life support skills might be required. The study day is an introduction to all aspects of advanced life support and gives a preparation for those wishing to undertake the Resuscitation Council ALS programme. The day is dynamic and fun and includes theory and skills based practice to sharpen your practice, build your confidence and competence in relation to Resuscitation Guidelines, airway management, arrhythmias, drug therapy and the management of cardiac arrest.

Each session is based on current guidelines and requires active participation in simulation.

The aim of this study day is to provide practitioners with enhanced knowledge and skills to increase their confidence and competence in assessing and managing patients with haemodynamic insufficiency.
