Louise Hicks - Executive Director, Education. Louise has 28 years experience within health, academia and business. She originally trained as a Registered Nurse before specialising in Emergency Care and Trauma Management. She achieved a distinction in her MSc in Civil Emergency Management which built on her BA(Hons) in Nursing and Education Studies. Her passion for excellence in care has taken her to the USA, Europe, Hong Kong and Australia where she has worked in trauma centres, with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Rescue services, Hospitals and Academic Institutions. She is a qualified teacher and became an academic working at the University of Sheffield and latterly City Universty, London. She has published in relation to Major Incident Management, Risk Management, International Incident Management and Triage and has developed national curricula at undergraduate and postgraduate level. She established new continuing professional development tools and frameworks and designed, built and implemented knowledge transfer strategies that increased commercial engagement and income. Louise was the Head of a large academic department running education and training for several thousand Nursing students a year, managing 107 academics and developing research capacity. She became the Director of Professional Development and developed education commissioning with Trusts across London. As the Associate Dean for Business Development & Enterprise at City University Louise established multi-million pound contracts and commissions and worked with the NHS, Police and Public Sector colleagues in developing their training and education needs. She established an extensive consultancy and project portfolio which has transformed services within PCTs and Acute Trusts. Louise is a competent negotiator and has expanded her contract & commercial skills through postgraduate business law training and executive coaching. She has served on Senate, Executive and Professional Advisory Boards and as a Governor in Further Education. Louise joined Nationwide Healthcare Services as a full Partner in 2010 and directs the Education & Continuing Professional Development portfolio.
Paul Hicks - Executive Director, Training & Development.
Paul has 26 years experience in and with healthcare practice. He started life on the London Ambulance Service in roles such as Paramedic, Cardiac Care Project Manager and progressional roles within the operational management. He was part of the original development of the first managerial response vehicle (central 99) which was targetted for major incidents, public disorder and paramedic response within the City and West End of London, and went on to be the Emergency Planning Manager for Central London. In this role he managed planned events such as Notting Hill Carnival, Party in the Park, the Central London Planning for Millennium including Winter Pressures and the additional Millennium Pressures planning processes. He has also managed the London Ambulance Service response to seiges, muliple terrorist incidents and bombings, the emergency response for the Funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, transport incidents and many other incidents requiring a senior managerial response. He has been committed to engaging the Voluntary Sector within the emergency response providing valued support for the statutory services and the wider NHS. Through his experience and activity within major incident and major event management Paul has gained a Queens award and the Order of St John (Serving Brother). After gaining his MSc in Civil Emergency Management, Paul furthered a career within academia and lectured in Paramedic and Resuscitation Sciences at City University, London before returning to practice to manage Resuscitation Services, Site Management and Discharge Co-ordination at a large East London NHS Trust. He later became the Director of Operations for a private Ambulance provider, Caring for You PTS Ltd delivering high quality Patient Transport services across the UK. He established Nationwide Healthcare Services in 2009 and continues to be a full Partner. He has gained commercial experience to add to his expertise in the delivery of healthcare from a Hospital and Pre-Hospital perspective both as an NHS and Commercial provider. He continues to work with Resuscitation services in the delivery of Interim Solutions and is recognised as a course director and instructor for Immediate Life Support and Advanced Life Support through the Resuscitation Council (UK).
The Core Faculty.
Our multi-disciplinary faculty has many years of clinical, education, business and management skills and current experience working in the NHS, independent healthcare sector, public sector, emergency services and within academic environments in Higher and Further Education. Courses and study days are taught and facilitated by staff eminent in their professions, contemporary in their skills and knowledge, and they have you, the participant, as the focal point of their course design and delivery.
Core faculty staff manage and direct course provision. They also manage clinical services and are consultant practitioners, senior managers or directors of training in their own right. They all possess a commitment to excellence and are highly skilled teachers.
